LAND (L2) AND HOUSE BUILDING
Together with Home of Hope Zambia, we have a 20 acres (20 000 m2) plot in Zambia (L2). It is located about 40 km west of the center of Lusaka. The plot has about 500 m fence and lockable gate. There is also a well with water pump. The caretaker’s home at the gate and the house are almost ready. Kitchen furnishings and other furnishings, electricity and sanitation are not entirely ready.
This is one of the strategies for our vision is to improve the living conditions of the vulnerable by owning and investing in land for organic farming and developing a local permaculture ecovillage.
In the long term, we will develop activities in the following areas: permaculture cultivation, education, animal husbandry. We will also motivate and educate the local population in organic farming and permaculture. The site will be a training and demonstration site for the locals and from the nearby villages.
Mugove Walter Nyika had a training in permaculture on the L2 site in September 2017. The participants came mainly from nearby villages. (See under menu permaculture training September 2017). Results of this project were substandard due to drought and lack of follow-up. But this education was a start for the permaculture training at the Kacheta school. There were some teachers who participated from this school who were inspired to convey the education to their school children.
Right now there is a family that lives there and takes care of the house and the land. They successfully grow fruits and vegetables.
The history of the house
We started the building of the house in 2013??? Our Project Manager Amon Silomba had the total responsibility for the planning, buying of materials and the building of the house, the fence and the gate. He did a quick and excellent job. Here we show pictures of the process:
Mugove Walter Nyika can instruct in the construction of houses made by natural materials. We plan to start school and community in 2018.
